When I decided to start a blog, I knew that Pinterest would be my go to place to help promote it. How I use Pinterest to get traffic to my blog? Firstly, for those of you who are new to Pinterest, it's a visual search engine and used for finding ideas like recipes, home inspirations, life hacks and much more.
It's my go to place if I'm searching the internet because it's just nicer to look at. I like seeing pretty pictures that have exactly what I was searching for.
Pinterest Pins and Boards
In the Pinterest world, ideas that you've searched for are called pins. They're like a poster that grabs your attention, based on what you've searched for.
Once you find a pin you love, the pins go on a board to keep your ideas organised and easy to find. The board name is of your choosing too so you can be as creative as you like!
‘Pinning' is not just adding a pretty picture and a few words like I thought. Before I started blogging, I had NO idea Pinterest was a money-making machine for businesses, and how you pin can have a BIG impact on your business!
Pinterest SEO Strategy
Note; This post contains affiliate links. This means I make a small commission if you choose to make a purchase, which is of no extra cost to you.
If you're not familiar with SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimization. My understanding? It really is just a marketing strategy to get your website to rank higher in a search engine. The higher the ranking, the more clicks you'll get and you'll want more clicks to get traffic to your site.
The same goes for when you create a pin, SEO everything!

2. ENABLE RICH PINS
Next you MUST enable Rich Pins. By doing this, users are drawn to your pin because it has a bold title and a brief description underneath that tells you more about the pin. Pinterest actually favours and recommends Rich Pins as opposed to normal pins. So if you want more exposure for your pins, do NOT skip this step!

3. CHOOSE PHOTOS RELATING TO YOUR TOPIC
When choosing an image, be sure to choose one that is related to what you're blogging about. I've recently downloaded the PicMonkey app to create images. It's an amazing photo editing tool that will take your pictures to the next level. Plus there's pre-made sizes for social media so you don't have to worry about getting the sizes right every time .
4. OPTIMIZE YOUR DESCRIPTION BOX
The description section for your pin is a valuable tool for you to use keywords because it's very important to getting your pin to rank higher. You know when you search for something and the drop down menu comes down with suggestions? I've been using that as my guide!
5. OPTIMIZE YOUR BOARD NAME
Optimizing your board name is also on the list of priorities. Naming your boards using popular keywords can get you into the persons smart feed, which is the Pinterest homepage. In your board description, don't go stuffing words randomly either. Use sentences as though you're talking to someone and fit them in naturally.
6. OPTIMIZE YOUR PROFILE
Promote yourself with SEO on your profile too. Make sure your profile name and about me section has keywords in your information about your business.
